Three shades of electronic-music hipster came together this past Sunday, August 29, at the Hollywood Bowl, thanks to a superstar lineup of the Chemical Brothers, Chromeo and Yacht.

That Yacht have chosen to cover “Nausea” is another stroke of genius for the Portland-based duo, who released one of the best albums in ages, 2009’s See Mystery Lights, released on the mighty DFA label.

What a long, strange trip it’s been to this moment in music. The headlines are all too familiar – major labels are dying, download this, download that, blahblahblah… All the hubbub over technology and filthy lucre has obscured what is becoming increasingly clear: 2009 may be the best year for music in a decade – a veritable golden age, if you will, captured in a twelve-month period.

Yacht made one of 2009’s best albums with See Mystery Lights, but this new dub version of one of its standout tracks, “Waste of Time,” proves timeless: it could’ve come from a mid-‘80s vinyl twelve-inch – the kind that could only be found in a back rack at an obscure record store in New York City.

As we wrote about a while back, Yacht has grown up and, as the latest DFA signing, become an official act. Once upon a time Yacht was a moniker for Jonas Bechtolt and his sometime vocalist Claire Evans, but now they are signed to DFA Records and have released a top full-length “See Mystery Lights”.
