Photographer Ryan McGinley originally shot these photos for The New York Times, documenting the 2004 US Olympic Swim Team. His images of Michael Phelps, Ian Crocker, Aaron Peirsol, Diana Munz and Jenny Thompson were stunning examples of McGinley’s prowess behind the lens, capturing the team underwater in a variety of states of play.

The UK’s largest open water swim series appropriately titled The Great Swim – hits Scotland this weekend for first ever Great Scottish Swim. On Saturday, 29th of August over thousands of swimmers will dive into the fridged Strathclyde Loch to complete a one mile swim in record time.
