It’s not exactly a mash-up, and it isn’t quite fan fiction… But what it is is compelling. We discovered this strange pop art mutation via the website of one of our favorite bands Holy Ghost: two indie/dream pop Noo Yawk hipster mainstays, Jorge Elbrecht (of both Violens and art collective Lansing-Dreiden) and Chairlift singer Caroline Polachek, collaborated on a song that seems have been designed to fit perfectly when played alongside superstar Justin Bieber’s “Never Let You Go” video.

Holy Ghost! is made up of two lifelong friends who previously worked as session players for various DFA artists before founding their a smoothly funk and unabashedly italodisco world-wandering beast. Their remix of LCD’s “Drunk Girls” takes the garagey racket and subs in disco poplock, modular sine and three extra minutes, kicked off with straight rub-a-dub-dub tom shouts.

“This is the first and last mash up we’ll ever make,” the fantastic New York neo-disco-post-electro-with-vocals-whatever duo relayed about their dreaded mash up combining Holy Ghost’s earlier single “I Will Come Back” with “Yearning,” a new release from DFA act Black Van. They claim they broke the no-mash-up rule to celebrate Chinese New Year, but we’ll take the musical dividends no matter what.
