Despite his famous friends or hype or whatever, the man otherwise known as Wesley Pentz remains a DJ’s DJ. His latest mix, Diplo Presents Dubstep: Blow Your Head, could serve as a primer in the genre – but what it really does it provide a glimpse into what Diplo appreciates in the sound, where he connects with it. He’s not a purist dubstep DJ, but a dancefloor diplomat, reshaping the funk in his own image.

Okay, full disclaimer: summer 2010 will be the first time that the Mad Decent Block Party tours outside of Philly, but it looks to become an annual summer staple, an alternative to Lollapalooza, Warped Tour and so on for those that like their beats well done…

Via Twitter, Mad Decent majordomo/superstar DJ Diplo kinda slammed the new video for Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” as a rip-off of his homey M.I.A’s “Boyz” clip (comparing the two, he does kinda have a point, but decide for yourself). Then, adding humor to injury, the dance-music merry prankster tweeted a download link to his new, irreverent remix of “Rude Boy” just a few hours later. It’s just amazing what that there Interweb can do!

Why is Mad Decent so dope right now? First they drop a free South Rakkas Album and now they’ve just unleashed a free Gucci Mane mixtape named “Free Gucci”! (For those that, uh, don’t read I guess, the title is a play on the fact that this predicate felon rapper is behind bars yet again….) Of course, Mad Decent being a Diplo thing, there’s no surprise that this mixtape is so tight, but the Mad Decent peoples have taken things to ultra-high levelz this time around.

Another bizarre video from the demented mind of Eric Wareheim, brought to life by Fatalfarm, following his work with Major Lazer. This song could break even further into the pop charts than the past singles from Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do. This video will certainly help it make some rounds.

You’ve heard South Rakkas Crew, even if you didn’t realize it: the Crew – actually the duo of Alex Greggs and Dennis “Dow Jones” Shaw – have been responsible for some of the hottest bangers around, both their own, and others. South Rakkas are down with Diplo’s Mad Decent label (which released the SRC classic “Mad Again”), and have done production for M.I.A.

The wonderful part of a boutique festival is how up close and personal it all is ! this could include having an intimate dinner with Diplo, Gilles and the organizers of the Worldwiide Festival at the beachside venue the night before it all kicks off. This also includes then getting to know the plane load of Gilles Peterson listeners and fans of WF that flew in with you from Gatwick to the magical coastal town of Sete for the many imminent Mediteranean shenanigans !
and so it begins to go off !! Diplo drops his sh*z hard and you know it’s gonna be 3 hours of twisted boomin’ jump up …..

If you are a fan of Santigold, MIA or Rye Rye, Diplo and Switch’s newest collaboration will appeal to you. It’s the sound of a future-retro Jamaican party, one that you probably would’ve missed because it was in a pretty bad neighborhood… but if you’d braved it, the best one you’d seen in a long time.

Baile funk, the down ‘n dirty party music once only heard in the favelas, has certainly come a long way – what with Diplo being one of the top advocates as well as our good friend Daniel Haaksman releasing a huge diversity of baile funk …

Requesting songs standing by the dj booth is absolutely not on ! -or is it?
