Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo’s Tennis Wrist: LA’s Loss

Sonic Youth is indie rock’s beacon of cool, even after being bashed for appearing on Gossip Girl recently. So, it makes sense that the band would have some off stage activities that spoke to their eclecticism and offbeat qualities. However, even we weren’t expecting to hear about their lead guitarist breaking his wrist playing tennis. Little can be found about the axeman’s game or his stats, or even where he likes to play. We imagine it’s some secret, mystical Lower Manhattan ivy-walled tennis court that only rock stars and ultra-hipsters can enter. We did find him serving up between the bins at a local record shop (pictured). However his local its probably a YMCA, which in many ways is even cooler. The bummer of this story is that the upcoming dates in the Southwest, and the September 29 date at the Wiltern Theatre isn’t happening. We will Ranaldo a speedy recovery, and hope to find him on the court again soon. We like the ring of “Sonic Youth Tennis”… great team name. Thurston?
