Stepen Colbert’s interviews are nearly always cold, relentless, and circuitous offensives, leaving most people turtled on their backs, pawing at the sky. Some try to fight back (they lose), others try out some deflective Judo (“the way of gentleness”) only to end up saying almost nothing at all. Shaun White disarmed the Colbert bomb this week by being just about the coolest dude around…and by winning his second Gold two days prior. Leaning across his chair, guffawing, calling White “man” like Chong would, Stephen hugs the little ginger, gets falsetto on him… just so obviously smitten. When you’re getting shadow punches and bro hugs from Colbert you must be doing something right (like reinventing a sport).
