I’ve been so immersed in music on a daily basis for as long as i can remember, either as a promoter, DJ, curator, booker, marketeer that it’s a pleasure to simply come across fresh and exciting artists by the by and embrace their music as a fan first and foremost. Case in point for me here is Speech Debelle who popped up on my radar one morning, prompting me to her site where ears perked up i bought her album online and discovered added value instrumentals on another site and then noticed she was performing that night at the Raw Rhythm Festival in Amsterdam.

All signs pointing towards fresh and exciting, i’m totally charmed by Speech’s presence and distinct vocalese together with her dope live band and how she seduces a new audience who have never heard her music before. Takes me back to early Digable Planets, Tribe, De La, Roots days of live groove hip hop (a scene that i’m proud to have played a role in) and I have a strong feeling that we’ll be hearing loads more from this artist.
