Toro Y Moi is the nomme de musique of Columbia, South Carolina resident Chaz Bundick. While it might be startling that this progressive, au currant blissed-out vibe of a track came from one of the Southern States, consider that the sounds of the last few decades, including everything from Michael Jackson to Bristol’s Alpha, have finally washed over the multitudes of young producers that are ready to make their mark. Bundick does it with this single “Blessa” from one of two full-lengths he’ll have next year. On par with folks like MGMT and Animal Collective, Toro y Moi uses melodic ambient, hazy electronics and pop arrangements to create these ethereal summer sounds — Beach Boys meets 4AD; the sound of 2009. There are no hard edges here, just a fantastic post-chill experience. Looking forward to more from Toro y Moi.
