As if that Major Lazer album wasn’t hot enough, Diplo and Switch’s dancehall destruction project have released a salvo from an upcoming ep that’s better than anything they’ve released yet. “Sound of Siren” features a memorable hook from the first lady of Diplo’s woofer-wrecking crew, M.I.A, a raucous flow from Jamaican chat master, more martial drums than a Nas track, and, true to its title, sirens galore. They’ll need them—this is a firestarter. It’s like a whole mixtape in one song: what makes it so compelling is the sheer sonic anarchy Diplo and Switch manage to condense in a not-even-three-minute song! Not since the Bomb Squad has a production crew brought the noise with such pop-cultural explosiveness. Ring the alarm!
