We’ll admit it: here at Kspace, we get sick of holiday music pretty fast. So, if we’re going to bring you a Christmas jam, it better be totally insane. Well, we’re doing ourselves one better today by bringing you an ode to Santa Claus from Lee “Scratch” Perry. This track is seriously nuts, just like Perry himself.

Lee “Scratch” Perry is one of the great innovators in music: as one of the primary creators of both ska and dub reggae, and an early producer of Bob Marley and The Clash, he’s most likely had an impact on every corner of your record collection. Reggae, punk, techno, hip-hop, dancehall – Perry has touched all of them in his own eccentric fashion. And now he takes on a Christmas song, turning it into a fractured drum and bass track not unlike, say, classic Squarepusher, overlaid with his own manic, free-associative toasting.
Perry is also one of music’s famous madmen, and also one its most prolific. “Santa Claus” comes from Repentance, his recent solo album – his 54th – that was, if things couldn’t get more bizarre, produced by Andrew W.K. and Grammy nominated! As another Christmas gift, Perry’s starting a week-long U.S. tour on December 13th: don’t miss this totally original musical genius, or Santa will leave a lump of coal in your MP3 player…
