He may be an international superstar, but underneath the fame still rests a football hooligan – that’s what Liam Gallagher made clear in comments today fired in the recent war of words between him and brother Noel regarding the breakup of their band, Oasis.
Noel Gallagher is a well-known enthusiast of Oasis’ hometown hero team Manchester City, so it was quite an insult when his younger brother accused him of “doing a Keegan” in regards to Noel’s abrupt departure from the band after a recent Paris concert. If Liam wanted to bait Noel as a disloyal traitor, he couldn’t have picked a better metaphor: football (soccer to you Yanks) fans know he’s referring to Kevin Keegan, the former Manchester City manager who left the team in 2004. Many Man City felt he’d left before finishing the job he’d started – the clear implication in Liam’s salvo. Oh, these Gallagher brothers play dirty, on and off the field. Liam’s latest penalty kick, aimed right at his brother’s head: he’s claiming to take the name “Oasis” for himself. We’re just waiting to see how Noel will respond – get out the yellow cards – we’re in for a hell of a game.
