Guest Artist: Ryan Star – This Could Be the Year

As challenging a year as this has been, we here at KSPACE.TV proudly celebrate what was achieved this year and feel optimistic and energized by what’s to come. It’s been a banner year for great musical and sports moments and we cherish these and the spirit of artists and athletes as they carry us over into the new year. One such artist who lives, breathes and celebrates this positive and optimistic spirit is our December guest artist Ryan Star who joins us over the next couple weeks with his ‘09 roundups, his new release and what’s to come in his world …..

This Could Be the Year ….. the title of one of my favorite songs off of my upcoming album 11:59.  This song is the marriage between 2 passions of mine: sports and music.  It stands for what I truly love about life and the soundtrack music gives it.   When I sat to write this song, I wanted a song that I could hear blasting in stadiums for the World Series or the Superbowl–a modern day “We are the Champions.”  I was lucky enough for this song to be embraced right away by ESPN and the WWE, and have seen it appear on many year-end highlight reels already, even before the album has come out.

I listen to music most when I am at the gym or running outside in NYC, so it makes sense that many of the new tracks on 11:59 are about feeling the moment we are in.  Songs like “Right Now,” “Brand New Day,” and “This Could Be the Year” have all found their way into the sports world this year and it really makes me feel like they are living out the destiny for which they were written.  My favorite songs have always been the ones that make me feel like I can fly–when you hear a song and it speeds up your heart rate and makes you want to go faster, be stronger.  Some songs tap into your spirit and say “nothing can stop me now” and that is so powerful.  Better than a coach in the last quarter telling me it’s my time, I look to songs to make me feel that inspiration.

In a few days I leave for a week of snowboarding out west.  It is where I will be reborn for next year and I won’t be alone up there.  I have made a list of the songs of 2009 that have found their way into my psych-up play list.  Enjoy…

Run This Town- Jay Z
Muse – Uprising

Pearl Jam  – The Fixer
Manchester Orchestar – Pride

  6. great blog! Ryan’s music has inspired me more than you could imagine. I played Right Now in our TV studio’s control room before I had to direct my final project and am positive it helped me get the A. I have never been more motivated or energized than when I listen to his music. There is a sense of urgency and you feel it whenever you listen to it. Brand New Day and This Could Be the Year are perfect for running. All of his songs allow you to get lost in them which is why I listen to music. I listen to get caught up in it and go to a different world even just for 3 and a half minutes. Thank you Ryan! Hope you have a great holiday and have fun snowboarding!

  7. Great to see you blogging – throw in a couple of Ryan Star songs and the list will make a good iMix to buy on iTunes.

2010 – this WILL be the year!

  8. “My favorite songs have always been the ones that make me feel like I can fly – when you hear a song and it speeds up your heart rate and makes you want to go faster, be stronger. Some songs tap into your spirit and say “nothing can stop me now” and that is so powerful.”

You’ve hit the nail on the head as to why your music resonates with me so strongly. Songs that make me feel like I can do anything, be anything. Songs that remind me to live in the moment, don’t dwell on what I can’t change, and change the things that I can.

For uplifting, ‘Breathe’ is there. ‘Right Now’ for when I need to feel strong. Thank you.

  9. “My favorite songs have always been the ones that make me feel like I can fly–when you hear a song and it speeds up your heart rate and makes you want to go faster, be stronger.” Yes – this is exactly what your music does for me! Wishing you tremendous success in 2010!

  10. Ryan, every song on your EP is a winner. I am really excited about 11:59 – if the rest of it is anything like what’s on the EP, it will not only be a home run, it will be out of the park (to keep the sports references going lol). One of the things I really appreciate is your willingness to talk about your music, and what inspires each song. At the same time you welcome everyone’s own interpretation. As great as the studio versions of these songs are, the passion you put into your live performances is incredible and proves how much you believe in your music. Have a great time snowboarding and have a safe & healthy New Year.

^ I totally agree with you here. Right Now and 11:59 are two of those kind of songs for me. So thank you for giving us these songs. :) And I’m gonna check out those songs you listed that I haven’t heard yet.

  15. In a radioworld of bleak & and uninspired music, Ryan Star shines brightly with a message of hope & meaning. His lyrics make you feel good and his powerful voice carries even more emotion. I can’t wait for 11:59!

PS..I like that Muse song “Uprising” too… have you heard the rest of the albulm at all?

  16. So glad that you put this list together Ryan! I just picked up the Brand New album last week and Vices is one of my faves, so I’m happy to see it on your list. As for your music, that is exactly why I listen to it…to FEEL. To feel inspired, energized, motivated, reassured, calm,…whatever the mood or occasion, there is a Ryan Star song that fits it perfectly. Thank you for that :)
Have a great and rejuvenating time out west.

  18. Ryan, I know exactly what you mean – I love listening to songs when I’m running, and then sometimes, something about a particular song will just hit you, and then I get so freaking happy & energized, I feel like I could fly.
Just so you know, some of your songs have that effect on me. :]
Very well written blog, I’ll probably check out the songs you listed sometime soon!
Have fun snowboarding, stay safe ♥!

Music is the only way I can get through a workout… I have a playlist for running.. music has helped me lose a lot of weight.. and might I add Ryan himself has helped me lose a lot of weight.. Brand New Day.. mid run is perfect. My favorite is Breathe though.. perfect for my cool down. I love your music Ryan.

It’s always interesting to see what music musicians look to for inspiration. You have achieved the goal of having YOUR music as a soundtrack to life for many of us. As I’ve told you before, your music makes me ‘feel’ for lack of another word. Hope to see you soon.

  33. Thank you for sharing your playlist with us. I will definitely check it out=D In March, I was introduced to you and your music. You are such a bright, shining “Star”…you have been quite an inspiration to me!! This year was truly the worst year of my life…no question about it. I lost my Mom to Liver Cancer in July. As if that wasn’t enough, exactly a week later, I lost my dear friend (my 2nd Mom)…so, I lost 2 Mom’s in a week. “Breathe” came into my life at the perfect time. That song has so much meaning to me…it’s unbelievable! Right now, “Breathe” could be the soundtrack to my life. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with the world, Ryan! Keep it up! Your music is touching/changing lives. This WILL be the year…I can feel it!!!! I am extremely proud and excited for you!! I hope to see you out on the road in 2010, my friend!! I wish you all the happiness in the new year!! “Get used to looking up…”;) The sky is the limit! All love! http://www.breathe4jobs.com P.S Have a wonderful time out West…be careful! Don’t break any teeth while snowboarding;P

  34. Ryan is probably the best solo artist I’ve heard in the last few years. I bought his first CD (songs from the eye of an elephant) when I was still living in Brazil, my home country. I became addicted to the album. Now, the same thing is happening with the new album. You gotta come to Texas again, man, so I have a chance to see you!! Wish you all the best.
