It’s been a good year for Funkineven, aka Steve Julien, who is really one of the nicest dudes around town, has a crazy knowledge of music and earlier this year came with the discordant street jam ‘Soul Glow’ feat. Fatima. But just when you think you’ve worked out what he’s all about, he goes an drops an Acid record full of TB303 basslines and some funny ass mantra – “IT’S A NEW SOUND / FROM A OLD TOWN / FUNKINEVEN / MAKES YOUR HEART POUND.” It wouldn’t sound out of place played by Frankie Knuckles @ The Warehouse or for the Nag Nag Nag fashionistas @ The Ghetto. ‘Heartpound’ is tongue-in-cheek retro but it will still cause mayhem on the dancefloor, or wherever you hear it. Eglo Records need to press this on brittle vinyl like the original Trax 12 inches. And get this out on the street ASAP.
