Bat for Lashes gets Analogue Suicide Treatment

YouTube Preview Image

We’re positively batty for L.A.-based analog synth fetishist/wonderfully eccentric performer Tara Busch’s incredible new remix of Bat For Lashes’ “Daniel,” which you can download for free here. The video for the remix is also amazing – like an ’80s Laura Branigan clip coming down off DMT.  What Busch has done has totally transformed “Daniel”: fragments of hazy Burial dubstep, Radiohead’s melodic spookiness, and Danny Elfman’s symphonic scores for Tim Burton movies all collide here ecstatically, giving the already spectacular original song even greater psychosexual punch; David Lynch could certainly get down to this!

Inspired by studio iconoclasts ranging from Brian Wilson to 808 State, Busch’s genius clearly stems from her background as a sonic nerd: she collects vintage synth and weird sound gear and writes about it on her very cool blog, AnalogSuicide. Even cooler is how Busch brings you into her process of creativity: with filmmaker Maf Lewis, she has created a fascinating nine-part YouTube documentary showing in great detail how she meticulously put together the “Daniel” remix in the studio. It makes us yearn for Busch’s upcoming album, Pilfershire Lane, to be released by the great electronic music imprint, Tummy Touch: with kaleidoscopic technique, even Brian Wilson might be proud…
