If it’s summer, that means it’s time for the Mad Decent Block Party! Okay, full disclaimer: summer 2010 will be the first time that the Mad Decent Block Party tours outside of Philly, but it looks to become an annual summer staple, an alternative to Lollapalooza, Warped Tour and so on for those that like their beats well done…
Mad Decent, of course, is the label of Diplo, the mad producer (M.I.A., Robyn, Rolo Tomassi, etc.), remixer (Kanye West, Radiohead, Britney, Sia, everyone), superstar DJ (he pretty much invented the mash-up pretty much with his Hollertronix crew, y’all), and global groove ambassador (he pretty much made Brazilian ghetto baile funk a worldwide phenomenon with mixtapes like Favela On Blast); he also made a pretty good album, Florida, of his own back in 2004. From his résumé, it’s clear Diplo likes to party, so it’s no surprise he’s started his own. The Mad Decent Block Party has already made stops in Philly and New York, and still has stops in Los Angeles (this Saturday, August 14th) and Chicago (August 21st). The L.A. stop is a must for bass heads with taste, with the likes of local heroes Gaslamp Killer, Nosaj Thing, Them Jeans, and Thee Mike B commingling with blog-friendly out-of-town talent like Theophilus London and Maluca. It’s sure to be the fiesta of the moment, and oh yeah, it’s FREE, so get your cutoffs on and rock it…
