Event: Los Angeles dubstep capital of the world ?

This week, starting today Tues 16th, Los Angeles is going to sound a lot more like London. A LOT. Within the next four days, the absolute top five U.K. dubstep producers are all playing shows within L.A. city limits. It’s gotta be a world record: Skream – the basshead responsible for that smash La Roux remix

- is playing tonight in a warehouse party promoted by Pure Filth, the group responsible for the bottom end shaking soundsystem rocking the Coachella Dome this past year.
On June 17th at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip, Scion hosts Zomby, the Hyperdub heir apparent responsible for the massive retro-rave killer “Where Were You In ‘92″,

and the mighty Joker, a 20-year-old Bristolian wunderkind who brings real funk to his grimy sub grooves; that same night, the mighty Low End Theory presents Memory9, another wildly inventive producer/dj from London (via Italy) who makes glitchily frantic dubstep on the very experimental tip.
Then on Saturday, June 20th, South London’s Benga, one of the true originators of dubstep, who helped solidify the genre with the spooky, synth-filled apocalyptica tracks he’s released on the innovative Tempa label, plays yet another Pure Filth party. We gotta give props to the Pure Filth posse: not only do they make sure the sound will be the best and heaviest possible, but they’ve also brought back the art of the party flyer. In an age where cheesy multicolored rave graphics still remain the status quo, Pure Filth are creating classy images like their supercool black-and-white Skream advert (see above), which seems more like a vintage poster for ska heroes the Specials back in the day. It’s just more proof that when it comes to moving club culture forward, Los Angeles is surprisingly becoming the market leader…
