Now, the Birdy used to be these four DJ’s doing their DMC world champ routines together, basically. Treading the well worn path of the classic hip hop scratch routine, dusty beats, furiously juggled and cut with the added flavour of each DJ bringing a different element of sound to eventually create one whole, coherent piece. Yep, that USED to be them. and hell, they used to do it really well, but scenes change and the best of breed evolve and mutate too. So with a new year comes a whole new Birdy Nam Nam sound. All the technical wizardry that stood them out from the scratch crew crowd is still there no doubt, but the quartet, being French and all, (and with Bastille Day upon us) have embraced the gallic electro sound. It’s out with the well worn grooves of the funk drummer and in with insistent and body moving electro house beat, shedding the upright slap bass sound for the tearing saw wave to rock shit up. a.k.a their new set will BLOW.
