Lil Wayne is a sports freak… And is feeling Kobe

Lil Wayne is a sports freak. Not only does the rap superstar have his own ESPN column, he had the cable sports network logo tattooed on his skin to commemorate it.

Although he’s been notoriously fickle over the course of this year’s NBA playoffs (he’s been seen on the sidelines rooting for the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets at different points), with the Finals coming down to the L.A. Lakers and Orlando Magic tonight, Wayne has sided with the Western Conference champions (as did President Obama earlier) via a brand new song aptly titled “Kobe Bryant.”

Utilizing a slew of samples featuring sports commentators and other players (including LeBron James and Dwayne Wade) praising “The Black Mamba,” Wayne peppers his verses with all kinds of insider basketball talk like “Just give him the ball/and he take it off, yeah/He probably dishin’ it to Gasol, yeah/or give it to D-Fish on the wing, yeah/Or just let Ariza do his thing” over a dramatic bed of orchestral blasts and horn bursts.

While this track is sure to be on heavy rotation all over L.A. for the course of the Finals, it’s surely only a matter of time before another rapper steps up with a pro-Dwight Howard tune. He told ESPN that he sings Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” to himself at the free throw line, so maybe “Superman” would be better off with a scorching R&B track. Regardless, we’re listening…
