Beakless In Miami: Fear And Loafing With Evil Nine At Winter Music Conference

This year’s WMC took place from March 23-27, and to get the skinny on how it really goes down behind the scenes, we asked Pat Pardy—one hald of our fave DJ/producer duo Evil Nine to give us an on-the-down-low diary of their time there.

A collective of super fly girls bring back a bit of Flo Jo flavor to streets of East London. The ladies of WAH Magazine are into their nails like they are into their BMX bikes.

Review/Gallery: Pimps reach new heights in London

It felt to me like their recent show at the WF in Sete had soared to new heights – with a mix of that incredible Pimps energy, the oceanside setting with an immmediate packed upfront dancefloor, the new songs (including a stompin’ Pigbag cover) and classics given an almost pop feel if possible from jazz players this incredible !

Hipsterdom Redux: Handsome Furs and Nosaj Thing in the City of Angles

It was an intensive week for music’s early adopters this past week in Los Angeles. Hipsterdom centered around events featuring two artists: electro indie rockers Handsome Furs and L.A.’s own beatmaster general Nosaj Thing. This past Thursday, Handsome Furs – a duo side project compression Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade and his hot wife, Alexei Parry…

Live: Juan McLean and The Field @ The Glass House, Pomona CA

Woe to anyone in Southern California who tries to put on any sort of non-basketball related event on the night of a Lakers game during the finals. Even the electronic-music nerds couldn’t tear themselves away from the Lakers crushing Orlando Magic 100-75, as was evident to The Field playing to 30 people exactly (yes, I counted) last night at the Glass House in Pomona. Come all the way from Sweden for this?

Review: walls of sound at coachella

I’m still reeling from the sheer aural attack and unexpected magnificence of My Bloody Valentine’s climax at the 10th Annual Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio California this past weekend. Clearly I’ve never heard MBV live or I might have known what was to come but hey that’s exactly how I wanted to experience [...]

Review: Robert Glasper Trio off the meter at Cargo

Just like we expected…a sell out! The Robert Glasper Trio did it on Tuesday night at Cargo to a packed room of hyped jazz/ hip hop heads. The show was off the meter! Starting the show off with a shout out to the K for hooking him up with a fresh pair of SI-18 Rannell (get at it!) which he gladly pedalled away with. Taking us on an odyssey through his top catalogue from Herbie’s ‘Maiden Voyage’ to the “dillaludes” to the Radiohead interpretations – ‘Everything in it’s Right Place’ fo sho !

REJOICE TO SOIL & ‘PIMP’s DEATH JAZZ SESSION

I am ripping up Soil & “PIMP” Sessions’ death certificate. Yeah thats right, I too am joining in on this silly debate on what is and isn’t DEATH JAZZ. You don’t have to be a high browed jazz “know it all” to see how gnarly and unconventional this group’s music is. Being able [...]

THE PERFECT STORM – HANDS UP FOR A BIRDY MIX CD

You always have to commend musicians who, when known for one type of sound, take a leap and do something different. Birdy Nam Nam, who have been feathering their hip hop nest for sometime, decided last night to fly the coup and take a wing on the air of electro. I still have a [...]

SETE ALORS ! WORLDWIDE FESTIVAL SENSATION

I no longer believe Paris is the capital of lights. That honorary title belongs to Sete, a tiny fishing village and proud host to GP Worldwide Festival. I’ve come down to the South of France in search of a bit of rest, relaxation and of course a few captivating chansons. I knew what to anticipate [...]
