Photo: Daniela Dacorso ‘baile funk’

Baile funk, the down ‘n dirty party music once only heard in the favelas, has certainly come a long way – what with Diplo being one of the top advocates as well as our good friend Daniel Haaksman releasing a huge diversity of baile funk on his wonderful Man Recordings label to the hybrid sister sound of ‘kuduro’ by Buraka Som Sistema being remixed by Hot Chip and totally rocking the sound worldwide. Many of us however have not actually been inside one of the real gritty baile funk soirees in the favelas BUT thanks to another friend Brazilian photographer Daniela Dacorso, we can now get a visual taste of the inside vibes of this edgy, up-tempo sound with its super provocative dance moves.
Yeah it would probably help if you were in Rotterdam between now and August 23rd to experience her sneak peek “Totoma” but if not here’s a small taste.

Totoma” is part of the larger Brazil Contemporary multi venue exhibition that is a must to experience ! from visual art, architecture, film, video, photography, computer games and design. A culture where art and craftsmanship go hand in hand and where artists tell a story about society. Modern Brazilian culture is one of the most vibrant and exciting in the world.

Until August 23rd
Nederlands Fotomuseum – Wilhelminakade 332, Rotterdam
