KTV: Ryan McGinness “The Run Up”

YouTube Preview Image

Ryan McGinness is creating language with his art. Using symbols, iconography and corporate logos, he brings new context through repetition and juxtaposition, his pieces construct “worlds within worlds,” according to him. McGinness is one of the few artists today that blurs the lines between design and pop culture, sometimes taking the route of performance art. He grew up on surf and skate culture, and is obviously informed heavily by Warhol. Regardless of his medium, he manages to make provocative statements with each piece, and his prowess is large all throughout the US and Europe. Here he’s interviewed on “The Run Up” which is the SF crew Upper Playground’s series on artist innovators.
