We love film and the stories behind it and that is essentially why we started our ‘BEHIND THE SkREEN’ series which continues on Saturday May 31st (8pm) with Joy Division at K-Space Amsterdam complete with special guest director Grant Gee in the house. In this stellar film, Grant Gee and writer John Savage show why Joy Division’s collective musical genius and singular vision enjoys a larger audience and influence 30 years on ! It’s no suprise that this doc is receiving rave reviews in the UK (catch a clip here) with its superbly detailed insight of the group and its members, as well as the social, and cultural context from which they emerged in the mid ‘70’s. (Catch a clip here) and hear the words of band members, Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Peter Hook of New Order; the late and legendary Tony Wilson (Factory Records); Martin Hannett, their brilliant producer; the iconic graphic artist Peter Saville, photographer/director Anton Corbijn (Control) and Annik Honoré, Curtis’s Belgian lover. The only figure who does not appear on camera is Curtis’s wife, Deborah; instead, quotes from her biography appear as text onscreen, assuring us of her presence. Director Grant Gee will also show his award winning short film “The Western Lands”. K-Space Amsterdam is at Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 262. Presented by K-Swiss and DJBroadcast in association with Afilm.
