The Glitch Mob’s innovative head-nod side has come back with a vengeance in their new mixtape, a genius companion piece that redefines Drink The Sea’s moodscapes brilliantly. It does so by pairing the album’s instrumentals and beats with a cappella vocals and grooves from the likes of Lil Wayne, M.I.A., Nas, Jay-Z, Daft Punk, Dr. Dre, Mobb Deep, Freddie Gibbs, Young Jeezy, Busta Rhymes and more.

A trio of dubstep super-OGs—Skream, Benga, and Artwork—comprise Magnetic Man, and with such low-end tweaking talent all in one zone, much is expectedly hyped about this collective. It’s clear from “I Need Air” that Magnetic Man are up for pushing the sonics into new zones, even if that zone might’ve once been occupied by Britney Spears’ android double.

A blogging crew by the name of Notorias, has been quietly documenting their runs throughout the LA basin, both glorious and beautiful and some just downright urban. However, they manage to capture the type and scope of each journey, and share the video(!) from each of the vantage points on their runs.

What a long, strange trip it’s been to this moment in music. The headlines are all too familiar – major labels are dying, download this, download that, blahblahblah… All the hubbub over technology and filthy lucre has obscured what is becoming increasingly clear: 2009 may be the best year for music in a decade – a veritable golden age, if you will, captured in a twelve-month period.

This is the year of the eccentric U.K. chanteuse: Bat For Lashes, La Roux, Little Boots, Florence and the Machine… There are more and more everyday it seems: a generation of Brit girls seemingly grew up discovering their mom’s Kate Bush eight-tracks, and their lives (and ours) were changed forever… Current case in point: Marina Diamandis, who goes by the nom de roq of Marina and the Diamonds.

Not every 16-year-olds claim Grace Jones, Isadora Duncan, and Toots and the Maytals as influences on their MySpace – then again, Charli XCX is not your average teenager. This young Londoner is about to explode – she’s the next La Roux, the new M.I.A., and a serious contender for taking over Lily Allen’s day job.

La Roux is nestling into a special nook in music lovers’ hearts, hitting the music world with a definitive sound and cross-genre support. She is maintaining her hype with the release of her third single off her self-titled album, nominated for Britain’s Mercury Prize.

This week, starting today Tues 16th, Los Angeles is going to sound a lot more like London. A LOT.
